Yarmouth loves its baseball. In September the town will host the 2015 U13 AAA Atlantic Baseball Championship.

The local Yarmouth Gateways peewee AAA team in Yarmouth will serve as the host team.

Last year Yarmouth’s highest level of peewee baseball played at the AA level and won both the provincial and Atlantic championships.

In total there will be eight U13 teams from across Atlantic Canada competing at this AAA baseball championship.

The event will come on the heels of the National Oldtimers Baseball Championships, which is being held in early August, meaning a lot of focus is going to be on baseball in Yarmouth this coming season.

“We are excited to be able to get this event to Yarmouth and cap off what I hope will be a great summer of baseball in the area,” says Aaron Sweeney, president of Yarmouth Minor Baseball, which is in the process of collecting registrations for the upcoming baseball season.

Registrations are being accepted at Yarmouth Recreation until May 15. (Note: After April 15 a $10 late fee will be applied to registrations.)

YASTA, which just a few days before announcing this U13 tournament announced that in November 2016 Yarmouth will host the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship, says it is pleased to be involved with this upcoming baseball Atlantic championship.

“We are happy to have been able to help Yarmouth Minor Baseball attract this event to Yarmouth. It will be a great opportunity for us to show case Yarmouth and Acadian Shores,” said Rick Allwright, Group Sales Coordinator with YASTA.

Planning is getting underway quickly and anyone interested in helping is encouraged to get in contact with Albert Moore who will be chairing the event. Moore can be reached by phone at 902-749-7276 or by email at [email protected].
