Nick Tibert was the starting pitcher for the Kentville junior AAA Wildcats against Halifax in their opening game at the 21-U baseball provincials Friday evening in Kentville. Tibert's performance allowed his teammates to overcome 3-0 and 4-1 deficits to score a 5-4 walk-off win. The Wildcats take on Dartmouth Saturday at 9 a.m. at Memorial Park.

The Kentville junior Wildcats were come-from-behind winners over Halifax in their opening game at the Nova Scotia 21-U baseball provincials in Kentville.

In a 5 p.m. start Friday evening, Aug. 22 at Memorial Park, the Wildcats overcame 3-0 and 4-1 deficits to score a 5-4 win in dramatic fashion.

Trailing 4-3 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, Kentville pushed across the tying and winning runs on four straight hits by Wes Harding, Adam Gardner, Justin Beach and Bradley Fuller, with Fuller's the walk-off hit.

Halifax took a 3-0 lead after half an inning thanks in large part to a pair of Wildcats' errors, but Kentville refused to give up, scoring a run to make it 3-1.

Halifax upped its lead to 4-1, but the Wildcats struck back with a pair of runs in the fifth, the key hit an RBI double by Ethan Lang.

The starting pitchers, Nick Tibert for Kentville and Jordan Pelham for Halifax, both pitched well in an entertaining game from a fan's perspective.

Kentville's next game at the tournament is 9 a.m. Saturday against Dartmouth. The tournament continues through Sunday, with games in both Kentville and Hantsport. The schedule is available at www.baseballnovascotia.com.
