There have been different provincial championship banners brought back to Windsor over the past 50 years but with today's changing population demographics, and the increased number of sports programs available in Hants County, the number of young people wanting to play minor baseball is dwindling.
This is why the Windsor-West Hants Minor Baseball Association is looking at something new to attract potential young players this summer.
Vice-president David Shankel says, "the association is excited to offer a new program that will involve non-travel house league games for players aged 13 and under and for females 14 years of age and under."
Shankel notd that the program will be geared towards introducing “new players to the game at an older age."
A pitching machine will be used with the new program to speed up games that will feature no walks and a very low incidence of batters being hit by a pitch. As well, Shankel believes more hit balls will be put into play to increase fielding opportunities.
If you are interested in trying something new, registration will take place at Windsor Home Hardware April 19 from 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. and again on May 2 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the Windsor Superstore community room.
