YARMOUTH – It was a triumphant weekend for the Yarmouth Bantam Gateways, who captured the Nova Scotia 15U AA baseball championship in Noel Road.

The Gateways took the title by defeating the Sydney Sooners 11-5 in Sunday’s final. Brandon Carroll was the winning pitcher and game MVP. Spencer Surette had a two-run homer for Yarmouth.

Yarmouth began the tournament Friday by dropping a 4-3 decision to the Sooners. On Saturday Yarmouth defeated Stellarton 4-1, with winning pitcher Ethan Olsen getting his team’s game MVP.

Next it was a 4-3 victory over Dartmouth. Ryan Semple was the winning pitcher and game MVP for Yarmouth, with Brandon Carroll getting the save.

In the semifinal round Sunday, the Gateways beat Tri-County (Bedford) 5-2, winning pitcher Teagan Scott got the game MVP.

Yarmouth head coach Aaron Sweeney said he was impressed with the club’s performance.

“The whole team played well,” he said.

The Gateways advance to the Atlantics, which will be held in Dieppe, New Brunswick, the third weekend of September.
