The Kentville peewee AAA Wildcats swept a doubleheader from Tri-County Rangers June 8 in Kentville.
The Wildcats held on to win the first game 14-10, then completed the sweep with a 14-4 win in the second game.
In the first game, Ethan MacDougall picked up the win, allowing three runs in four innings of work. Jaydon Oickle and Seth Routledge provided middle relief, and Layton Cuvilier earned the save by getting the last five outs.
Cuvilier entered the game with one out and the bases loaded in the sixth and his team clinging to a 12-10 lead. The lefthander struck out the next two batters to end the threat, then retired the side in the seventh.
Ben McNutt had three hits for the Wildcats, and Bryce Dauphinee, Ben Foley and Ethan MacDougall added two hits each.
As he had only thrown 27 pitches in the first-game save, Cuvilier was able to start the second game as scheduled, and allowed four runs over three innings. Oickle picked up the win with two innings of scoreless relief. MacDougall, Foley and Cuvilier led the Kentville offense with a pair of hits apiece.
The peewees will be back in action again June 11, when they host Dartmouth. The game is already an important one, even this early in the season, as the winner will be able to claim sole possession of first place in the standings.
