The Kentville peewee AAA Wildcats got their 2014 season off to a positive start, scoring a 9-5 win over Hammonds Plains in their season opener.
The game was played May 28 in Hantsport as the Kentville fields were being used for the Apple Blossom Festival.
Layton Cuvilier, Kyle Woodworth and Ethan MacDougall shared the pitching duties for Kentville.
After Cuvilier surrendered four runs in four innings, Woodworth chipped in two innings of one-run ball and MacDougall contributed a scoreless seventh.
Seth Routledge and Colby Ramsay led the Wildcats at the plate with a double and single each. Woodworth added a pair of solid singles to the Kentville offence.
Mosquitos win doubleheader
Meanwhile, the Kentville mosquito A/AA team swept a doubleheader from Prospect on June 1, winning the first game 15-6 and squeaking out the second 9-8.
In the first game, Tyler Croteau picked up the win and Aiden MacLeod earned a save. Evan Gibbons went 3-3 with five RBI, Liam Keats was also 3-3 with three RBI, and Darian Oliver and Emmit Mailman were both 2-3 with two RBI.
In the second game, Gibbons went 3-4 including a walk-off, two-run double that turned an 8-7 deficit into a 9-8 win.
Rookie Leland Smith picked up the win with four strong innings pitched. Tyson Morrow and Leland Smith each went 3-3 with a pair of RBI apiece.
