WINDSOR, N.S. — The Avon View Avalanche girls’ hockey team are at the top of the game in the Valley High School Hockey League.

On Nov. 27, they upped their winning streak to five wins and no losses after thumping the Middleton Monarchs 8-0.

MacKayla Kelvey scored a pair of goals in the opening period and Brittany Poole added the third goal.

Poole also scored the lone goal in the second period.

Savannah Hart took over for the offense in the third period as she scored three of the Avalanche’s four remaining goals. Megan McCarthy added the solo marker.

They will play Central Kings on Dec. 11 at 6 p.m. at Hants Exhibition Arena followed by a game in Canning against Northeast Kings on Dec. 16.

The girls will wrap up the pre-Christmas portion of their schedule with a home game against West Kings on Dec. 18 at 6 p.m.

Ultramar Classic recap

The Avalanche struggled to score when they competed in the recent Auburn Eagles Ultramar Classic Senior Girls High School Hockey Tournament.

The team went 0-3.

Head Coach Rob Davies explained to the Valley Journal over two weeks ago, “we will see what we are made of when we play in Halifax at the end of November.” He was referencing at the time the Auburn Eagles Ultramar Classic Sr. Girls High School Hockey Tournament.

The Avalanche scored two goals over three games. They were defeated 5-0 by CP Allen. They managed one point in their 5-1 loss to Leo Hayes, a team from Fredericton that is the number one ranked high school girls team in New Brunswick.

Paige Parker scored the lone Avalanche goal in this game.

In their final game of the tournament, penalties hurt the Avalanche as Halifax West scored three power-play goals in their 6-1 victory. Haley Verge tallied the lone Avalanche goal.
