WINDSOR, N.S. — Coming off an 8-1 thumping by the Parkview Panthers the week before, in what was their second to last Valley High School Boys Hockey League regular season game, the Avon View Avalanche knew they were going up against some tough competition March 2.
Avon View played a sudden-death NSSAF Western Zone Division 1 playoff game against the Panthers in Windsor mid-afternoon March 2.
The boys were trailing the Panthers 3-0 after the second period. In the third, the Avalanche’s most effective player of the afternoon, Dan Lord, scored twice to pull the Avalanche to within a single goal.
The Panthers pocketed one into an empty net with five seconds remaining in regulation to win the game 4-2.
In the opening two periods, the Avalanche struggled with their passing and could not find any rhythm or consistency, even when they were on the power-play.
The loss ended the 2017-18 high school hockey season for the boys' team as they required the win in order to still have a shot at making provincials.
