KENTVILLE, NS - Annapolis Valley fans are in for a Summer Explosion when Ultimate Championship Wrestling (UCW) brings the biggest Maritime pro wrestling show of the summer to Kentville.

I’m sure right now that the UCW title is one of the most prestigious titles, definitely in Canada and probably North America.

Charles Martin

UCW owner, promoter and CEO Charles Martin said the show, coming to the Kentville Centennial Arena on July 20, features the most star-studded line-up on UCW’s Summer Explosion Tour.

“We’re going to give Kentville a former WWE Champion,” Martin said. “I thought this time instead of bringing him to Halifax, I’m going to take him to Kentville.”

In the main event, UCW Heavyweight Champion “The Vegan Warrior” Markus Burke defends his title against former World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Superstar “The Real American” Jack Swagger.

Swagger is a former WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Extreme Championship Wrestling World Heavyweight Champion, United States Champion and Money in the Bank winner. Martin said the Kentville show would be Swagger’s one and only stop on the Summer Explosion Tour.

With regard to Burke, arguably the top independent pro wrestler in Canada today, Martin said he’s “a darn good champion that represents the company well.” Burke currently holds three championships, in three different countries on two different continents. Martin said it’s an honour to have Burke defending the UCW title internationally.

“When I watched a video of my strap being defended in Africa, I thought that was pretty cool,” Martin said. “I’m sure right now that the UCW title is one of the most prestigious titles, definitely in Canada and probably North America.”

The semi-main event will feature Maddison Miles, arguably the fastest rising female star in Canada today, squaring off with former WWE Superstar and former WWE World Women’s Champion Victoria. This will be Miles’s stiffest competition to date.

There will be several other matches featuring the top Maritime wrestling stars and competitors from across the country and around the world.

Martin said the Kentville area fans have remained loyal to UCW so he wanted to reward their support by, for the first time, bringing the biggest show on his tour to the shire town of Kings. He said a touring company like UCW should switch things up occasionally when it comes to naming the venue for their biggest show.

Martin said that after wrestling for years and running UCW for the past decade, it’s the fans that keep him motivated. He loves seeing the smiles on the faces of the young fans and seniors in the crowds. It’s exciting for him to give people what they want, including a deep talent roster.

Martin said the beloved midget wrestling stars would also be coming to Kentville for the first time in several years. They include Short Sleeve Sampson and Prince Akeem.

The promotion continues to celebrate its 10th season of operations in 2017. In April, at the Halifax Forum Multipurpose Centre, UCW held its anniversary spectacular, drawing the largest paying crowd to a Maritime pro wrestling event in Nova Scotia in many years.
