The Fallen Heroes co-ed softball tournament is underway in Aylesford. Tournament action got underway at 6 p.m. Friday, July 25 following opening ceremonies at the Aylesford fire hall fields.

Close to 250 players on 20 teams are taking part in the three-day tournament, hosted by the Kings County Crime Prevention Association in co-operation with members of the Kings District RCMP.

Southwest Nova RCMP Superintendent Sylvie Bourassa-Muise took part in the opening ceremonies, including throwing out a ceremonial first pitch.

The tournament is being held in memory of the three RCMP officers killed in the line of duty in Moncton earlier this year. Funds raised through the tournament are being donated to the families of the slain officers.

Action continues all day Saturday and into Sunday. More information on the tournament, including a full schedule, can be found online at www.facebook.com/events/831707593508353.
