The countdown is on for the 44th running of the Nova Scotia Marathon and Half Marathon, being held on July 27 in the Barrington Passage/Cape Sable Island area.

Registration will continue this week, right up until half an hour before the 8 a.m. start at the Barrington Municipal Arena on Sherose Island.

The runners leave Sherose Island, then head west through Barrington Passage to the Cape Sable Island Causeway. Full marathoners run the entire circumference of Cape Sable Island before heading back across the Causeway to the finish line. Half marathoners run the Clam Point/Stoney Island loop, then back to the mainland. The turnaround point for the 10 km is Spruce Drive in North East Point.

Following the marathon, which is a qualifier for the Boston Marathon, a reception will be held at the Barrington Curling Club to recognize all participants.
