Digby’s Under 14 Crossfire Volleyball team came home from provincials with silver medals.

Digby’s U14 and U16 girls played in Tier II in the Volleyball Nova Scotia Provincials in Halifax from April 25 to 27.

The U14 girls went undefeated through round robin play and met one of the Southwest Fusion teams from Yarmouth in the semi-finals.

The Crossfires won that match 25-15, 30-28.  They played the Dartmouth Volleyball Club in the final, needing three sets to decide it.

The Crossfires won the first match 25-21 and then Dartmouth took the next two 16-25, 12-15.

Coach Sharyn Hiscock said it was an intense match.

“The girls didn’t lose gold, they won silver,” she said. “I’m ecstatic. The girls played incredibly and fought for every point.  They should be very proud of themselves.”

Malare Frost and Britney Porter were selected for the all-star team.

This is the second year in a row that a U14 Digby team has come home with a provincial medal—last year they won a bronze.

The U16 Tier 2 Girls played some incredible volleyball too, said Hiscock.

The score of almost all games were within two to four points.

“The girls played hard and made me extremely proud,” she said. “They really came together this weekend and played as a team, we haven’t had a chance to play any games since early February so it was a big tournament for them.”

They finished off their tournament with a 25-14, 23-25, 15-9 win over the West Hant’s Wizards.
