There were a lot of Yarmouth-area teams represented at Hockey Night in Canada’s Play On! Halifax, which lived up to the motto of outdoor sporting events – games will go ahead rain or shine.

It mostly rained.

Correction, it mostly poured.

The team Slippin’ and Dippin’ made up mostly of players from Ecole Par-en-Bas won the Enforcers under-17 male C division with a 6-5 win over the Short Sticks in the C division final. There were 20 teams in the C Division. The team lost to the B Division winner Flint Tropics who went on to win the entire Enforcer category. Overall, there were a total of 62 teams in the Enforcer category.

The Power Plugs, another team made of many Yarmouth players, made it to the final of the Snipers under-15 male C division, but lost 8-4 to a team called the Late Night Call Ups. There were 22 teams in the Snipers C division.

In the Legends division, the Yarmouth Avengers lost 12-8 to the Shuffle Demons. Eight teams competed in this division.

Aside from the Yarmouth-area teams that played in the finals, there were several other local teams competing at Play On! in the various age categories. There were also some Yarmouth players on teams from other areas.

Play On! Halifax, which took place June 14 and 15, set a record for being the largest Play On! event with around 630 teams registered and over 4,000 players participating. There were more than 100 volunteers and 100 referees involved as well, along with 57 outdoor arenas.

Kingston, Ontario will host the Redwood Cup, the national championship of this street hockey event. Last year’s Redwood Cup was held in Yarmouth.

You can see a video here of just how wet it was at PlayOn! Halifax.
