Next week Nova Star Cruises Ltd. will temporarily remove its Yarmouth-Portland ferry from service for a one-time maintenance requirement.

The cancelled crossings will allow the company to replace the ship’s Marine Evacuation System

The following sailings will be cancelled as a result:

·         Tuesday, May 27: Portland departure

·         Wednesday, May 28: Yarmouth and Portland departures

·         Thursday, May 29: Yarmouth departure

The cancelled crossings will allow the company to replace the ship’s Marine Evacuation System (MES). The MES includes an inflatable chute and four life rafts that are deployed during an emergency.

In April 2014, US Coast Guard required Nova Star to activate its MES during an inspection. Nova Star has been operating with a fully functioning and compliant loaner onboard. The loaner will be switched with Nova Star’s system.

Guests currently booked on one of the above cancelled departures will be refunded and given the opportunity to rebook passage on Nova Star.

Nova Star will resume regular service on Thursday, May 29, departing Portland at 9 p.m. EST.
