As Simple as That - a column by Jonathan Riley

The Fundy Erratics are going to take another short trip across county lines for a snowshoe on the trails above Cornwallis.

Annapolis County Recreation (ACR) has sponsored a series of snowshoe events this winter and the final one is Sunday, March 2 at 1:30 p.m. starting near the Reservoir at the top of Broadway Avenue.

The hike will be on a network of maintained trails that loop around a small stream reaching almost as far south as the Waldec Line. The whole loop measures less than 4km.

Parts of the trail are steep and uneven, but they pass through several beautiful parcels of woodlands—near the beginning of the trails is a deep ravine lined with hemlocks and a picturesque little waterfall running through it.

Near the back of the outer loop, the trail climbs into a healthy hardwood forest before looping back down into the softwoods.

ACR would like hikers to pre-register at 532-3144,  825-2005 or borde@annapoliscounty.ca. They’d like to know if you have your own snowshoes or need to borrow some.

The Erratics as usual will meet up at the Digby rink to car pool and we can also help with snowshoes—or you can cut out the middle man and visit the DARC offices yourself.

The Fundy Erratics try for at least one hike or outdoor adventure a month. Anyone can join the Erratics - we are a common adventure group: meaning we have fun together exploring the outdoors in a group; the hike leaders organize and lead the hikes, but each hiker is responsible for their own hunger, thirst, warmth, mobility and safety.

The best way to keep track of the Erratics and their next adventure is on Fundy Erratics Facebook group.
