A customer leaves Evangeline Mall alongside the Dollarama Store, which remains closed after an electrical fire Wednesday filled the store with smoke.

A store official says Digby’s Dollarama store is expected to remain closed for “a couple of days” following Wednesday’s store-clearing fire in an electrical panel.

Deputy fire chief Justin Wood said staff at the Evangeline Mall store heard a loud bang and saw flames coming from a large 1,000-amp electrical panel.

With smoke filling the building, staff and customers fled the store.

Digby Fire Department responded after the 2:28 p.m. alarm and found flames still shooting from the electrical panel.

“It’s not like the electrical panel you have in your house,” said Wood.

Store manager Alicia O’Neil said today the company’s district and regional managers were in the store to inspect damage, but added she was unable to provide further details.

Other stores in the mall were able to resume operations.
