At a special board meeting Jan. 20, the Annapolis Valley Regional School Board voted to suspend a teacher for five days.

When contacted, AVRSB officials said all details of the suspension were confidential under the terms of the board’s collective agreement with the Nova Scotia Teachers' Union and would not be  released to the public or the media.

The suspended teacher was identified only by his or her professional number: 347385.

Sometimes there are two sides to a story and media often exploits only one. The school board will do their job and determine necessary procedures and if legal action must be taken, then the public will be made aware. Until then we should trust the board to do its job and not risk slandering someone's name.

I believe the teacher's name and the reason for suspension should be public knowledge. I is especially important to students and their parents or guardians.

So not only do we not get to know who but more importantly we don't get to know what they did that the board felt deserved suspension
