Premier Darrell Dexter shakes hands with A.F. Theriault employee Wayland Allbright during a tour of Digby County with NDP candidate Dean Kenley, Tuesday, Aug. 20.
Most of the provincial Fisheries and Aquaculture jobs promised for Cornwallis have been filled.
Premier Darrell Dexter said Tuesday, Aug. 20 during a walking tour of downtown Digby that employees for 18 of the 22 positions had been hired and were working in Cornwallis.
The provincial government promised in April 2012 that 22 jobs from the headquarters of the fisheries division would move to Cornwallis by December 2012.
The employees are working out of temporary space belonging to the Department of Agriculture within Cornwallis Park until renovations are complete on their permanent offices. Dexter expects those renovations to be complete by the end of September .
The Department is in the process of hiring for three of the remaining four positions but a spokesperson couldn’t say when those positions or the final one would be filled.
Department of Natural Resources staff from the Digby County district office will be moving to Annapolis County to share office space with Fisheries and Agriculture. That is also expected to happen when the renovations wrap up end of September.
