Berwick council members debated and ultimately approved the “first ask for cash” for the Kings 2050 planning initiative at their Aug. 13 council meeting.
In December 2011 the towns of Berwick, Wolfville and Kentville and the Municipality of Kings County signed a memorandum of understanding to support and develop a comprehensive planning project for Kings County. The partners were recently asked by the County to contribute to a consultant study expected to cost $50,000.
After discussion, Berwick councillors agreed to their contribution of $1,400, provided the other partners contribute their share. Kentville and Wolfville have yet to confirm their respective financial requests of $4,200 and $3,400 . The County plans to contribute $15,000 in cash and an additional $15,000 in in-kind work to the initiative and has also requested $10,000 from the province.
