The Mersey Swing Band returns to the Morton House Inn for its second, “Swinging on a Sunday” concert on Aug. 18 at 2 p.m.

Bring your lawn chair and enjoy the music of the “Big Bands” on the lawn of the Morton House Inn, 147 Highway #8, Milton. In case of rain, the concert will be held at the same time at the Milton Community Hall in Milton. Admission is by free will donation.
Music for the afternoon concert will feature such hits from the Big Band/Swing Era as Benny Goodman’s Stompin at the Savoy; Glen Miller’s, String of Pearls; Count Bassie’s, Until I Met You “Corner Pocket”, and Hoagy Carmichael’s classic Georgia on my Mind.
The “Mersey Swing Band” which rehearses twice monthly, has been together for a year and has members from Queens, Shelburne, and Lunenburg counties. Rod MacGilllvray, director says, “The band has been working very hard and has really advanced as a group in their performances as they continue to enjoy playing great Jazz music.
The concert will feature solos by Cheryl Graul, saxophone, and Julie Ferguson, trumpet.
The Mersey Swing Band performed at Port Medway this summer as well as at the Harmony Bazaar in Lockeport. The smaller Swing Band which performs a different style of music than the Mersey Band is available to perform at events and venues. The band is always looking for new members!
