[UPDATE: Friday, 9 a.m. - Power was out this morning in Cape Breton, school was cancelled and the provincial tournament will start tomorrow, Saturday.]
A couple dozen Digby high school students are really hoping school isn’t cancelled in Cape Breton tomorrow.
Many of the Digby Regional High School hockey team is already on the road for Port Hood tonight to take part in the division III provincials there this weekend.
The forecast for Cape Breton tonight is for 20 to 30 centimetres of snow and another 5 to 10 tomorrow. Winds of 50 kilometers per hour gusting to 90 are also forecast.
The DRHS Mariners are scheduled to play their first game against the Richmond Academy Hurricanes 2 p.m. Friday.
If school is cancelled in Cape Breton then the teams will have to cram the six-team tournament into Saturday and Sunday.
Digby was supposed to play two games and then crossovers to decide who moves on to the finals.
Digby has played Richmond twice already this year and beat them 5-4 and 7-3.
Last year Digby hosted regionals at the beginning of March and had to reschedule all the Friday games because of school cancellations here– even though all the other teams were already in hotels in Digby.

He’ll be sitting out the first two games serving a two-game suspension for cross-checking.
For the record, we’d rather he were playing than tweeting.
Digby’s Bantam C team is also on the road for provincials tomorrow in Halifax. The forecast there is only calling for 5 to 10 cm. Plus that is not a school tournament and so is independent of school cancellations.
