The Spring Equinox ceremony at Gaspereau Lake that was to be held March 20 has been moved to Friday.
The Mi’kmaq Burial Ground Research and Restoration Association and Elder Henry Dorey, Native Council Nova Scotia Zone 10, were calling on Aboriginal people, as well as non-natives who would like to help, to save an ancient Mi'kmaq burial ground
The burial ground, said Ellen Hunt, who heads the association, has been blocked off this week by a new gate.
She believes the site dates back at least 5,000 years. The association has rebooked a sweet grass ceremony for March 22 at Dorey’s Landing, Gaspereau Lake, which is off Highway 12.
Hunt invites all to bring drums, rattles, or pipes, a chair and something for potluck feast following ceremony.
The release of a final decision on land use is slated for March 31.
