East Kings Soccer has hired a technical director for the 2013 season.

Citing a desire to provide coaches and players with more training and skill advancement each summer, the new director, Andrew MacRae, will focus on improving training and skill levels on the field while keeping the game exciting and fun for all involved.

MacRae has been playing soccer at a high level for many years and has been a member of the Valley Soccer community all his life. MacRae attended the Regional Training Center (RTC) at age 12 and then went on to play for Valley United and Nova Scotia Provincial Teams. He attended Acadia University for two years and, in his final year, was named team MVP for the Axemen soccer team. He has since been playing for the Valley United Men’s Team and, most recently, on trial at FC Edmonton.

His coaching career started at a young age, assisting Findlay MacRae with Valley United youth teams. Together, their teams won multiple indoor championships, as well as an outdoor provincial title with the U-16 Boys, which allowed them to play at the National Championships that year. Last year, he coached the Valley United U-18 girls, winning the Indoor Championship, Gunn Balderson Tournament, a provincial championship and competed at the national championship.

He currently runs the Goalkeeper Program for Acadia’s men's and women's teams and is an assistant coach for the Axemen.

This summer, MacRae will offer specialized outfield player and keeper training clinics. He will be attending practices and working with our teams and coaches to help improve their skill and technique.

Registration for this year’s East Kings program will be held on the following dates:

• Mar. 28, 6:30-8:30 p.m., Millet Complex, New Minas

• Apr. 8, 7:30-9 p.m., Millet Complex, New Minas

• Apr. 25 and Apr. 30, 5:30-7 p.m., Port Williams School

Dates for Wolfville and Hantsport registration have yet to be announced.

Registration forms are available online at www.eastkingsoccer.ca or at the indoor facility in Kentville. All registration forms must be submitted by May 1.
