A large low pressure system well south of the Maritimes was generating winds gusting over 100 km/h along parts of the coast on Friday.

There were shingles blown off roofs and lots of wind scattered debris. The wind also demolished a small shed at the Shelburne Coast Guard office.

The strong northeasterly winds were generating large waves and rough surf.

After more than two days of dealing with strong winds, many residents in the area were glad to hear it will diminish this evening.

Waves were also expected to subside overnight.
