Opening ceremonies held Thursday at AWEC

The Division 3 Boys Basketball Provincials kicked off Thursday at Annapolis West Education Centre in Annapolis Royal with the host eighth seed Wolfpack losing a close 77-68 contest against number 1 seed East Antigonish in the tournament opener.

AWEC scorers were Travis Dorsey 25; Franz Heubach 18; Stephen Wiles 15; David Bent 7; Desmond Chantiam 2; and Zach Burrell 2.

In the second game, the second seed Shelburne Rebels trounced seventh seed Carrefour 83-57.

After the Shelburne win, opening ceremonies were held, welcoming players, coaches, and parents and giving kudos to the community effort to fundraise for a new scoreboard prior to the provincial tournament.
