The Canadian penny and the Canadian Senate have a lot in common.

Topics :
Canadian Senate

The penny's function is unclear to most of us. The senate's function is also unclear to most of us.

We are not sure where the pennies will go to live when they are collected by the government. So too are we unsure where are senators go to live when they are appointed by the government.

Most of us could not name the Latin phrase is on the penny. Most of us could also not name the senator that represents our area.

Canadians have no say in how the penny is created, or what it is made out of. Canadians also have no say in how the senate is created, or who makes up the senate.

The penny has little value to most of us, as evident by the number of them found on the sidewalks. The Senate also has little value to most of us, as evident by the way most of us would like to discard the institution.

The penny rarely makes an appearance in our day-to-day lives. So too do our senators make an appearance in our day-to-day lives.

The penny is an outdated relic, which does not reflect the way the world has changed since it was created. So too is the senate an outdated relic, which does not reflect the way the world has changed since it was created.

Getting rid of the penny has been talked about for many years. Getting rid of the senate has also been talked about for many years.

The penny cost the taxpayers more money to make than the actual value of the coin. The Canadian Senate also costs the taxpayers more money than the actual value of the senator.

Though getting rid of the penny is not a massive savings, it is a prudent way to trim the budget. Though getting rid of the senate is not a massive savings, it is also a prudent way to trim the budget.

There is one key difference between the Canadian penny and the Canadian Senate however. We had good sense to get rid of the penny.
