A new club based in Kingston is all about going fast and is providing the opportunity for young and old alike to do just that.
The Valley Speed Skating Club hit the ice in October and currently has 16 members from Annapolis Royal to Wolfville and a coach to help skaters learn the skills.
Club president Steve Raftery donned his skates Saturday morning. He describes speed skating as a sport at which Canadians excell in the Winter Olympics and wants to provide the opportunity for local folk to try the sport and even aspire to Olympic heights.
The club has its own skates, including adjustible ones for kids, that are loaned to members for the season. They've also attended a camp at the oval in Halifax and plan to go back to the city next week to participate in several races.
