Mariners Edge Crushers

The Yarmouth Mariners edged the Pictou County Weeks Crushers 3-2 Thursday night in New Glasgow.

John Mullally opened the scoring for Pictou at 3:46 to give the Crushers a 1-0 lead. Josh Desmond (Jared  Hicks, Kyle Campbell) scored on the power play at 6:01 to tie the game at 1-1. Brandon Bussey (unassisted) scored at 7:16 to give the Mariners the lead at 2-1 after the first period.

Zack Henry  (Rodney Mahoney, Colin Campbell) scored the game winner on the power play at 13:46 to extend the lead to 3-1 after the second period.

Garrett Holmes scored for Pictou with 3:42 remaining in the third to close the gap to 3-2 and the Curshers pulled their goalie in the final minute for the extra attacker but the Mariners held onto their lead.

Yarmouth went 2 for 7 on the powerplay while Pictou County went 0 for 7.

Chase Gaudet stopped 26 of 28 shots for the win while Brandon Thibeau stopped 28 of 31 shots in the loss.
