It was decided this week at meeting of the committee of the whole council that Annapolis County council will invite other municipal leaders to join them in a regional caucus to discuss municipal issues.

The purpose of the regional caucus is to provide a regular forum to discuss items of mutual concern. The invitation includes all elected officials and senior staff from Middleton, Bridgetown, and Annapolis Royal as well as the village of Lawrencetown.

Warden Reg Ritchie told council having everyone at the table ensures that everyone is involved and informed. The warden has suggested that the agenda be kept to two or three items to ensure they are productive.

Councillor Tim Habinski said that he is encouraged with the spirit of cooperation that is being exhibited by the series of meetings that municipality has been holding with each of the three towns. He said that the regional caucus is a natural outgrowth of these conversations.

Councillors agreed to the suggestion of Councillor Martha Roberts that the Village of Lawrencetown participate in these discussions. Roberts serves the municipal district that includes Lawrencetown and is the municipality’s representative on the Lawrencetown Village Commission.

The group will meet quarterly with the first session anticipated next month. The initial session will focus on transit and regional economic development.
