With an expected weekend storm just hours away, some local events are being cancelled or postponed. Environment Canada’s latest forecast is as follows:
Today: Mainly cloudy. 60 percent chance of flurries late this afternoon. High minus 9.
Tonight: Cloudy. Snow at times heavy beginning this evening. Amount 15 cm. Blowing snow before morning. Wind east 20 km/h becoming northeast 40 gusting to 60 overnight. Low minus 11.
Saturday: Snow and blowing snow. Amount 10 to 20 cm. Wind northeast 50 km/h gusting to 80 becoming north 50 gusting to 70 late in the evening. High minus 6.
In light of the storm, organizers of local events are posting cancellations or postponing events:
-- The Coffee House scheduled for Saturday night at ARTsPLACE in Annapolis Royal has been cancelled.
-- The Friday night supper at the Clementsport Legion will be cancelled because of inclement weather.
-- The Valley Speed Skating Club’s Saturday practice is cancelled due to the storm. The club will likely add a session on March 16 to make up for the cancellation.
-- The Cornwallis Park Monthly Breakfast on Saturday, Feb 9 is cancelled because of inclement weather.
-- The Farmer’s Market in Annapolis Royal will be closed Saturday, Feb. 9 due to the expected blizzard. The weekly Market will resume on Saturday, Feb. 16 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. (For those who live close by, please note that the fishmonger is planning to be on hand with fresh fish, selling from his truck. Or you can call him at 247-5605 to make alternate arrangements).
-- The Greenwood Mall will be closed Saturday, Feb. 9 due to the blizzard storm that will effect our area. Note: Subway will open Saturday at 9 a.m. The mall will re-open Sunday, Feb. 10 from 12 to 5 p.m.
-- Annapolis Home Hardware will remain open through out the storm for everyone's required essentials.
-- Loose Ends Trading Co. and Cozy Internet Cafe in Annapolis Royal will be closed Saturday due to the storm.
-- Hutchins Pharmacy in Annapolis Royal will remain open Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
