Digby Fire Department

A Digby scallop fisherman called the fire department this week when the pumps on his scallop boat failed.

The crew of the Brier Challenger discovered about four feet of water when they went aboard about 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 28.

The Digby Fire Department lowered a pump and hoses to Ralph Cummings’ boat, the Randi & Brianne.

Cummings who is a firefighter and a lobster fisherman offered his boat to transfer the equipment to the Brier Challenger.

Once the fire department’s portable pump lightened the boat a bit, the crew was able to start the boat’s pumps and clear the rest of the water on their own.
