Hants East was the winner of a girls’ basketball tournament held Jan. 11-12 at Northeast Kings Education Centre, with the host Titans claiming third place.
Hants East, Avon View, Pugwash, Prince Andrew and New Germany joined host team NKEC at the two-day event.
On day one, the opening game was between Prince Andrew and NKEC, and the Titans got off to a positive start, scoring a 54-23 victory. Olivia Mahaney led NKEC with 10 points, Gena Harris added nine and Chloe Corkum seven.
New Germany then topped Avon View 44-34, with Emma Sue Wagner scoring 14 for New Germany and Allana Rendell eight for Avon View.
Prince Andrew then met Hants East, with Hants East claiming a narrow victory (the final score and scoring details were not available).
In the final game of the day, Pugwash defeated New Germany 56-47, with Justine Benjamin finishing with 20 for Pugwash and Rachel Penney 12 for New Germany.
On Jan. 12, NKEC and Hants East tangled, with Hants East escaping with a 70-67 decision. Hannah Landry had 23 for Hants East, while Harris and Corkum finished with 10 points apiece for the Titans.
Avon View then topped Pugwash 64-41 behind a 30-point performance from Allison Boyd. Corbyn Patriquin had 16 for Pugwash.
In the third-place game between NKEC and New Germany, the Titans romped to a 42-20 win. Harris led NKEC with 12 points, while Emma Bruhm had 10 for New Germany. Pugwash topped Prince Andrew 57-51 in the fifth place game.
The championship game was an all-Hants County affair featuring Hants West and Avon View. Darryl Umlah had 18 points to lead Hants East to a 64-59 win. Haley Guild and Tasha Williamson had 16 apiece for Avon View.
