A pole fire is when a (telephone or power) pole, is on fire -- as pictured (see especially picture #3). They generally start when some insulation fails and the electricity either begins sparking or causes heat which catches the wood in the pole on fire. Sometimes it is just the equipment itself that burns. I dont know the exact cause in this instance but when firefighters arrived they observed bright brilliant arcing - some short in the equipment. Hope that helps.
