The DRHS senior girls not only lost on the score sheet but they suffered a serious loss to injuries.
Mallory Francis won’t be back the rest of the year after breaking her finger against Bridgewater on Saturday, Jan. 12.
Breanne Lewis came away from the game with swollen knuckles and Alice Perucca sprained her ankle.
The senior girls Mariners lost the first game of the AWEC tournament 40-28 against Annapolis West Education Centre.
Kendra Lewis had 10 points, Mallory Francois 8 points and Kailyn MacDonald and Kristine MacNeil each had 4 points.
Bridgewater beat the Digby girls in their second game of the tournament 74-42.
Kendra Lewis had 12 points, Sasha Dunphy 11 points, and Kristine MacNeil and Brianna Riley each 4 had points.
Liverpool then beat the girls 54-38. Kendra Lewis had 13 points, Kristine MacNeil 10 points, and Rachael Gidney and Breanne Lewis each had 4.
Demoralized from the injuries and the weekend results the Digby girls started slow against Kings Edgehill in a league game in Digby on Thursday, Jan. 17.
At the end of the first quarter the girls were trailing 23-3. They only allowed 5 points the second quarter and closed the gap to 31-26.
They tied it up in the third before finishing that quarter down by only two: 43-41.
KES pulled away again in the final quarter to win 60-52.
Both Perucca and Lewis played with their injuries.
Sasha Dunphy had 19 points, Kendra Lewis 18 points and Kristine MacNeil 9 points in the loss.
The Digby senior girls are now 4 and 3 in league play.
They have three league games left; they’re at AWEC on Thursday, Jan. 24, at KES in Windsor on Friday, Jan. 25 and then at SMBA on Thursday, Feb. 7.
