Irving Oil has awarded over $13,000 to the Clean Annapolis River Project (CARP) for its Rural H20 Program. CARP, of Annapolis Royal, has the mission to restore and protect the ecological health of the Annapolis River watershed through science, leadership, and community engagement.
“We’re very pleased to support CARP as they focus on providing water safety in residential and farm properties around the community,” said Harry Hadiaris, general manager of Irving Oil Marketing. “CARP does great environmental work locally and we’re honored to assist them as they continue to positively impact Nova Scotia.”
CARP is just one of the recently announced organizations that are receiving a portion of nearly $40,000 from Irving’s community grant contributions.
Established in 1990, CARP works with communities and organizations to promote awareness about, and to foster the conservation, restoration, and sustainable use of the marine and freshwater ecosystems of the Annapolis River watershed.
“We are extremely excited to partner with Irving Oil,” said Monik Richard, executive director of CARP. “With the Rural H20 Program, CARP will be able to provide rural homeowners with in-person information on how to properly maintain their water systems and reduce pollution sources. One exciting component will be to provide our participants with a free drinking water laboratory test and train them to do subsequent testing to ensure their well water is safe to drink. Some people think that if it’s clear and tastes good that it’s safe, but without testing it, we can’t know for sure.”
Since 2010, Irving Oil has awarded more than $220,000 in grants to 23 organizations throughout Eastern Canada and New England through their community grant-giving program. To learn more about Irving Oil and their community engagement, please visit irvingoil.com.
