The Barrington Sea Star Ice Dogs started 2013 off with two wins on home ice on Jan. 5 and 6.
In game one, the Dogs scored two goals in each of the second and third periods on route to a 5-1 win over the Avon River Rats. Brent Symonds and Tyler Quinlan led the way with two goals each while Brydon Ryerson added a single. Chad Harris was sharp between the pipes turning aside 31 shots in the victory.
In the Sunday afternoon tangle, the Sea Star boys held off a late charge from the visiting Fundy Phantoms for an 8-5 decision. Symonds struck again for five goals with Quinlan scoring two and Ryerson notching another. Nathan Townsend and Logan Quinlan each chipped in with three helpers and Shamus Atwood was strong in goal kicking out 41 pucks.
The Dogs are on the road for three games this coming weekend with stops in Clare on Jan. 18 at 8:30 p.m., Spryfield on Jan. 19 at 8:00 p.m. and Shannon on Jan. 20 at 11:00 a.m.
As of Jan. 10, the Ice Dogs are in second place in the Nova Scotia Junior C Hockey League, three points behind the Chester Clippers.
