The Tri-County Regional School Board issued a news release on Thursday afternoon, Jan. 10, in which it said in the coming days the air quality report prepared by Teritt Indoor Environmental on the Yarmouth Consolidated Memorial High School will be posted for the public on the school board's website and the Yarmouth high school website.

The board said it will let the Vanguard know when the report is posted so we can inform the public. It said Thursday a version of the report to post online was not yet available.

In response to a question posed to the school board by the Vanguard about if there are any plans to hold an information session for parents, superintendent Lisa Doucet said because the report is being made available to the public, there is no plan for an information session at this point.

The following the news release issued by the school board on Jan. 10:

Officials from the Tri-County Regional School Board and Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal and Stephen Boudreau of Teritt Indoor Environmental held information meetings with staff of Yarmouth Consolidated Memorial High School, local media and community representatives to present the findings of indoor air-quality and mechanical systems testing conducted at the school.

The tests were initiated after concerns from students and staff about air quality at the school. The safety of students and staff at the school is a top priority of the Board.

The results of the testing indicate air quality falls within established standards as determined by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program and is well below occupational exposure limits.

The inspection of the air-handling units and the ventilation system at the school did identify areas where improvements were necessary. Most of the work has been completed. The work included repairing one air-handling unit and balancing of these air units throughout the building.

These changes will improve the air flow throughout the building.

Students are attending a school with air quality that meets international guidelines.

Mr. Boudreau made a number of recommendations. A number of which have been implemented. The remaining recommendations are being prioritized and further corrective action will be taken. A tracking system will be developed to provide progress updates to Yarmouth Consolidated Memorial High School staff. These mechanical systems at the school will be monitored to ensure they continue to function properly.

The full air quality report from Teritt Indoor Environmental will be made available in the coming days on the Board (http://www.tcrsb.ca) and school website (http://sharepoint.tcrsb.ca/ycmhs/webpage/default.aspx).
