Yarmouth County native Bob Hanf is the new president and chief executive officer of Nova Scotia Power.
The appointment was officially announced Tuesday (Jan. 8).
Hanf succeeds Rob Bennett as Nova Scotia Power’s president and CEO. Bennett becomes executive vice-president and chief operating officer at Emera Inc., Nova Scotia Power’s parent company.
Hanf spent a decade in various senior roles with the Emera group of companies.
Before joining Nova Scotia Power, he served as executive chairman of Light & Power Holdings in Barbados. Prior to his position in the Caribbean, he was president and CEO at Bangor Hydro Electric Company in Maine.
In a conference call with reporters, Hanf was asked about his main priority or goal as Nova Scotia Power’s new president and CEO.
“The main goal is to make sure that we deliver safe, reliable, cost-effective service,” he said. “And the very first thing that I have to do is get out in the province and meet as many of our customers as possible and our employees and listen and understand what their concerns are.”
Hanf will continue as a director for Light & Power Holdings and Barbados Light & Power.
Hanf grew up in Yarmouth County and earned his law degree at Dalhousie University. He then worked in Western Canada’s energy sector before returning to Nova Scotia in 2002.
He serves on the board of the IWK Health Centre, and is a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors (Atlantic Chapter). He is currently completing his Master of Divinity at the Atlantic School of Theology.
