Yarmouth has been chosen as the location for the screening of the adult comedy Goon, which is due to be released in theatres on Feb. 24.

“With the overwhelming support that this community shows for hockey, it is a natural fit,” says Kate Parkes of Alliance films.

A limited number of seats are available for the screening, which will take place at the Studio 5 theatre in Yarmouth on Thursday, Feb.16. All proceeds from the sale of the tickets will be used to support youth programs provided by the Yarmouth County Minor Hockey Association and the Yarmouth Skating Club. Tickets for the movie are $12. There is also a ticket package that includes an after-party at Boston Pizza.

Tickets will be available from either of the associations as well as at the Mariners Centre box office. This film is rated R and it not considered suitable for young children or youth. This adult comedy is about a bouncer who overcomes long odds to lead a team of under performing misfits to semi-pro hockey glory. You can view a trailer of the movie by clicking here. (Note: the trailer does include some swearing.)

Presented in association with Alliance Films and Empire Cinemas, the show time is 7 p.m.

NOTE TO READERS: The winner of our movie ticket contest was J.P. d'Entremont. Thanks to all who entered.

I am going to guess the ending of the movie. If it sticks to the real life goon experience...the protagonist will end up dead by his own hand in a hotel room after eating a handful of painkillers? Should be a great moneymaker for the producers as well as a great motivator for all the good Canadian kids out there. Don Cherry will be proud. Nothing like a few concussions and beating someone to unconsciousness to get a good start in life
