Nova Scotia RCMP are advising motorists to take extra precaution on the province’s roadways as a winter storm impacts the province.

Conditions are expected to deteriorate on roadways across the province with a mixture of snow and ice pellets.

A release issued at 2 a.m. Sunday asked people planning to travel to listen to local weather reports, call 511 or check the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal highway cameras at www.gov.ns.ca/tran/cameras before heading out for an update on conditions. Motorists may even consider delaying travel plans.

The release said for those who must travel to reduce speed, allow for extra travel time and avoid sudden starts, stops and lane changes or turns during icy conditions, which may cause you to be involved in a collision.

Visit www.gov.ns.ca/tran/winter for more wintertime driving and travel tips.

At 7 a.m. Environment Canada said it was -6 C, but felt like -11 C with the windchill.

It was calling for the snow to end this morning and 60 per cent chance of flurries amounting to another two to four centimetres.

Flurries are expected to continue into the evening with another two to four centimetres possible. The low temperature is forecasted to be -16 C, but -25 C with the wind chill.
