A Bear River resident was arrested Thursday and faces charges of mischief, causing a disturbance, and impaired driving after a man who was cut off by bar staff smashed out windows in the Bear River Legion in the early hours of February 2.

Annapolis RCMP Cpl. Dale Guy said police responded to a call from the Legion at about 12:15 a.m. that a man was outside breaking windows. Annapolis RCMP, assisted by Digby RCMP, responded to the call and identified a suspect, but all efforts to locate and apprehend the man during the night were unsuccessful.

Cpl. Guy said the investigation revealed that a man had been inside the bar drinking and because of his drunken state was refused more drinks by Legion staff and asked to leave the establishment.

The man left, but once outside broke out a window and then left in a vehicle. He returned a short time later driving his vehicle, got out and broke several more windows, then fled from the scene in his vehicle.

Later in the morning police arrested a Bear River resident for mischief. He was released pending a court appearance for April 2 at Annapolis Royal provincial court.

Cpl. Guy said cost of repairs for the broken windows could be in the thousands of dollars.
