Three people have been charged with drug-related offences after police intercepted a suspicious package that was on its way to the Shelburne area.
On Jan. 24, a police investigation into drug trafficking involving RCMP members from Yarmouth, Shelburne and Halifax resulted in a suspicious package being intercepted from British Columbia while enroute to a residence in Roseway.
Police seized 460 grams of psilocybin (commonly referred to as magic mushrooms), 490 grams of marihuana and approximately 50 grams of hashish. Police then executed a search warrant at two residences in Lydgate and Roseway.
Cpl. Nancy Mason, of the Shelburne Street Crime Enforcement Unit, described the bust as significant for the area and noted that the investigation was ongoing and that more charges were possible.
Three Shelburne County residents, a 55-year-old female and two males, ages 28 and 27 are facing charges of Possession of Controlled Substances for the Purpose of Trafficking. The 55-year-old female and 27-year-old male are scheduled to appear in Shelburne Provincial Court on March 28. The 28-year-old male is scheduled to appear in Shelburne Provincial Court on April 11.
Members of the Southwest Nova Federal Drug Section and Shelburne County Street Crime Enforcement Unit (SCEU) were involved in the investigation and arrests.
“We are extremely pleased that through the intelligence gathered by our units, drugs were seized before they could make their way onto the streets of Shelburne County,” says Sgt. Gary White RCMP Halifax Federal Drug Section. “We will continue to aggressively target individuals involved in illegal drug activity and want to send the message to people to really think twice before getting involved.”
