After months of preparation, and a track record that includes two previous successful events, Molson Canadian Nova Scotia Music Week arrives in Yarmouth this week for a third consecutive year.

The popularity of the event is evident. Ticket sales for several of the performances during Molson Canadian Nova Scotia Music Week, Nov. 3-6, are sold out, and other shows have only a handful left.

Last week executive director Scott Long said the Songs and Stories show (happening Saturday, Nov. 6 at Th’YARC) was close to being sold and festival wristbands were 85 per cent sold.

“The Music and Industry Awards Brunch presented by Fireball Whiskey is sold out,” he said.

The largest part of final preparations will take place on the ground in Yarmouth when tractor-trailer loads of sound and lighting equipment arrive for set up at the 10 venues in the area. The NSLC Gala Awards Show will take three days to assemble in the Mariners Centre. Among those up for awards is Yarmouth’s Ryan Cook, who has four award nominations.

The loss of the Rodd Colony Harbour Inn in the accommodation sector has presented organizers with some challenges, but Long said they are working around it.

“If anything, some of the smaller properties will see more business this year which is a good thing for the community,” he said.

He says the organizing committee is excited about all of the artists and performances for this year’s show and adds that the gala show is “not to missed.”

“The line up of talent is spectacular and features Jimmy Rankin, Slowcoaster, Carmen Townsend, Three Sheet, and local artists Ryan Cook and Rain Over Saint Ambrose. Also, we are looking forward to a reunion performance by Owen and Gerry. We hear they have put together a brand new song for the gala. It should be very entertaining,” he said.

Tickets for that event are $33.99 including service fees. Long said last week there were plenty left.

“The production value is huge. There will not be show of this size in town again for a few years as music week will be moving on to a new community next year,” he said.

The Rodd Colony is now opening hotel rooms for guests of Nova Scotia Music Week and we are also using the Thirsty Fisherman and the conference space in the hotel.
