With another Relay for Life in the books, the event's organizing committee has met to review the relay and will get together again this fall for further analysis of this year's relay and to look ahead to next year.

The Yarmouth area's 2009 Relay for Life was held June 19-20 at the Hebron Recreation Complex, the event raising over $159,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society, the most in the six-year history of the local event.
The previous high for the Yarmouth relay had been $152,689 in 2008.
There were 64 teams in the relay, down from 71 a year ago.
As for the weather for this year's relay, while it rained prior to the start, the precipitation stopped just in time for one of the evening's highlights, says relay spokesperson Brenda Burgess.
?It rained kind of like from six ?til seven and at seven o'clock, which is when we do the survivor lap, the rain stopped,? she said...

An Aboriginal Culture Center celebrating both Mi'kmaq and Wampanoag heritage has opened in Barrington.
Dedicated to the late Charlie Labrador, who was the first chief of Acadia First Nation, the centre in located upstairs in the historic Barrington Court House.
From an arrowhead collection given to Sou'West Nova Métis Council Chief Louise Ross by her Eastern American Wampanoag counterparts, to an authentic birch bark canoe and wigwam made by Liverpool Mi'kmaq Richard MacKinnon, the center boosts an eye appealing and informative display.
?This museum represents from about 1750 to 1530 so we're jumping back a few more hundred years than the other museums in the area,? said Tony Cunningham, provincial captain of the hunt for the Sou'West Métis Council and one of the volunteers who will be working at the cultural center this summer.
Cunningham, whose aboriginal name is Dancing Crow, has crafted over the years many of the items on display at the centre in the way of his forefathers, including pipes, walking sticks, spears, knives and hand drums.
?This is an important part of our history,? said Cunningham, adding the center can teach the younger generation how the aboriginal peoples once lived ...

All the ?little fingers? of various community health-fostering agencies make it work, said one man congratulating the volunteers on the Western Kings Community Health Board.
Charles Fraser, chairman of the Western Kings Memorial Health Society, said the partnerships between his own group, the CHB and others ?reach out and make health happen.?
The CHB held its annual meeting June 11 in Berwick, at the WKM Health Centre.
Guest Steve Hemmingway, a volunteer on the Annapolis Valley Health district health board, also commended the CHB for its work.
?It's a pleasure to work with our five CHBs - but we're required by law to do it,? Hemmingway said...
