In celebration of a wonderful life we, the family of Walter Roy Stanford, announce his peaceful passing at home in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia on May 14, 2018, with his family by his side. Walter was born on September 17, 1928 in New Waterford, Nova Scotia. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Grace (MacKeigan); his sons, Paul (Kathy) and Alan (Sally); his cherished grandchildren, Laura (Dartmouth) and Mark (Vancouver), and sister-in-law, Helen (Donald) Stanford. Walter was the last surviving member of his family, predeceased by his father, Walter and mother, Mary (MacLeod); his brothers, Donald and John, and his sisters, Gloria (Rogers) and Dorothy (Noble). Walter was thoughtful and caring with a quiet demeanor. He was dedicated to family and devoted to the United Church. Walter had a long career with Seaboard Power Plant (1947-1986). He spent many summer and winter vacations in Ingonish, Nova Scotia - golfing, fishing, boating and enjoying family time, and later learning to ski at Cape Smokey. In later years many special memories were made with family at his sister Gloria’s bungalow in Mira, where he could be found gardening, boating, fishing, playing horseshoes and cards, and always tinkering on projects. Both at his home in Glace Bay and later in Dartmouth he enjoyed gardening, taking pictures/videos, and enjoying many family dinners. A memorial service will be held Friday, May 18 at 1 p.m. at A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, and a cemetery service will be held Saturday, May 19 at 2 p.m. at Oakfield Cemetery in Marion Bridge, Nova Scotia.
