Rita Francis (Pirotte) Macisaac

Rita Francis (Pirotte) Macisaac
With sadness we wish to announce the passing of Rita (Pirotte) MacIsaac of Inverness, NS, on March 14, 2018 at the age of 87. Rita was born April 26, 1930 in Reserve Mines, NS. She was the youngest daughter of the late Frank and Annie (MacNeil) Pirotte. She attended Glace Bay General and graduated as the valedictorian in 1951. After graduation, she accepted a nursing position at Inverness Memorial hospital, where she met the love of her life, the late Francis X. MacIsaac. She finished her 36-year career at Inverness Consolidate Memorial Hospital as a Head Nurse and then moved to New Glasgow to become the Administrator of Sunset Haven, for a number of years. Rita thoroughly enjoyed her family, her friends, and her profession as a Registered Nurse. She spent many years working as a volunteer for the Inverness Pipe Band, and was a big supporter of all Inverness community initiatives. She also became a long-time winter resident of Sarasota Florida where she spent her time volunteering in her park events, playing golf and following her beloved Blue Jays. Always the adventurer, she travelled to Europe with her sister, without a plan or hotel reservations. On arrival in Belgium, she successfully located her unknown Belgium Pirotte family, by scanning the telephone book and calling individuals until a contact was made. This first meeting provided a great reunion for both families, and resulted in some wonderful lasting relationships. In addition to her parents and husband, Rita was predeceased, by her oldest daughter, Anne (MacIsaac) Cummings; her sister and best friend, Jeannette MacEachern, and her son’s (Don) partner, Cathy Thomas. She will be remembered lovingly by her daughters, Janice (Basil) Rose, Louise (Barry) MacLean, Isobel (Mike) Snowdon; her sons, Frank (Debbie) MacIsaac, Don MacIsaac; her son-in-law, Lew Cummings and former daughter-in-law, Patsy (Ross) MacIsaac, as well as several nieces and nephews. Many Grammie kisses, were shared with her beloved grandchildren, Heather Surrette, Susan and Joanne Cummings, Moriah and Tanner Rose, Liam and Callum MacIsaac, Emma and Grace Snowdon; her great grandchildren, Connor and Riley Allen, as well as her step-grandchildren, Lee and Jason MacLean, and her great step-grandchildren, Alex, Jacob, Ella and Mallory Maclean. Visitation will be held in Inverness Funeral Home on Monday, March 19, 2018 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and services at Saint Matthews Church on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at 11 a.m., Pastor Maggie Plant celebrating.
