Mary Eva Macfarlane

Mary Eva Macfarlane
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Mary Eva MacFarlane. Mary passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 15, 2018 with family by her side. She was the last surviving member of her family and, on leaving our arms, we know she entered the open, loving arms of her family in heaven. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Alexander “Alex” and Jennie (MacPhee) McSween. She grew up and lived her life in the Shipyard area of Sydney. She loved her neighborhood and her home, and her strength and independence allowed her to remain there, which was so very important to her. She enjoyed close friendships with neighbours for whom she cared deeply. Mary was a graduate of Sydney City Hospital’s School of Nursing, and thoroughly loved her career as a nurse on the Maternity floor at St. Rita’s Hospital. She provided kind, caring and compassionate care to all her patients. Anytime you took a trip to town with Mom, you could guarantee she would be stopped by a former patient and be remembered for the kindness and excellent care she provided when their children were born. This meant a great deal to Mom - she took great pride in caring for others. Mom’s care for others began at home; she was an excellent mother, providing unconditional love, support and devotion to her family and always putting the needs of her family first. She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Anne MacFarlane Leil (Allison), New Glasgow and son, Donald MacFarlane, Mississauga. She was affectionately known as “Mamie” by her nieces and nephews, Dalyce Keeling (Doug) and children, Alexis (Kevin Sweezey) and Kaley, Jennie Harquail (Andy MacGregor), Mara McSween, David Harquail (Cathy Hunter), Danny McSween and Jeff McSween. She will be missed by grandchildren, Jamie, Catherine, Tina, Scott, Chris and grand-fur-babies, Bunny and Brutus. They will all cherish the love and support she provided to them, as well as the many wonderful, fun memories of time spent with her. Besides her parents Mom was predeceased by her husband, Donald MacFarlane; son, Daniel Alexander; brother, Alexander “Acky “ McSween; sisters, Rachel Harquail and Annie MacSween; and grand-fur-baby, Bailey. Funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 19, 2018 with visitation one hour prior, both at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Fr. Norman MacPhee will officiate. Burial will be in Hardwood Hill Cemetery at a later date. Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.twcurry.com.
