Margaret Matilda Henick — Sydney

Margaret Matilda Henick
With deepest regret and sorrow, we the children, announce the passing of our mother, Margaret Matilda Henick, on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility, Mira Bay wing, Sydney River. Born on January 6, 1924 in Whitney Pier, Margaret was the daughter of the late Tom and Ethel O’Neil. Marg or as she was called by her children, Momma, Ma or Margie will be deeply missed as she was the rock of our family, our Queen Bee. Momma loved flowers and plants of any kind and loved the outdoors. She was the flea market queen and would always get the best buys. She loved The Salvation Army and bingo in her younger years. She raised her family on anything she could find to put in a pot and it would come out the meal of a lifetime. Her homemade bread with molasses will go down in history. Momma loved spending her summers in Margaree and for twenty years, Marg and Roddie called it their little piece of paradise. Marg leaves behind her children, Donna (Ron), Jenny (Pat), Judy (Wayne), Liz, Valarie (Dave), Barb (Paul), Bud (April), Shaun (Jo Anne), Greg, Mike (Delores), Kevin (Mandalay), Robert (Sharon), Ronnie (Wanda), and Glen (Kim); sisters, Sally and Rose; brothers, Tom, Earl and Jim; 41 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Walter; companion, Roddie; daughter, Cheryl ‘Bobby’; infant daughter, Verna Rose; siblings, Mary, Kady, Grace, Bernie, Joey and Mick; grandchildren, Margaret Michelle and Connor; great-grandson, Alex; sons-in-law, Butch, Glen and daughter-in-law, Brenda. We wish to thank Marg’s caregivers, the staff of Harbourstone who took such great care of mom while she was in their care. Visitation for the late Marg Henick will be held on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at the Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 19, 2018 at 10 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier, with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Following the Mass, a reception will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home. Private family interment will take place in New Calvary Cemetery, Whitney Pier at a later date. Momma always said, “Bring me the flowers I can smell”. No flowers by request, donations in memory of Marg may be made to charity of one’s choice. Funeral Arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.pierfuneralhome.com. The queen bee her wings are getting tattered and worn, so she set off to get her new wings ready to fly again. REST IN PEACE DEAR MOMMA
