Kenneth Delaney
DELANEY, Kenneth Robert - It’s with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kenneth Robert Delaney of Port Maitland, Yarmouth County on May 9th, at the age of 80. The son of the late Ralph and Kathryn (Parry) Delaney, Ken was a long time dairy and beef farmer, having taken over and expanding the family farm in 1961. Prior to farming, Ken lived in Ontario where he held various positions including working on the lake boats and at General Motors. More recently, while still in the beef business, Ken was employed by Acadian Seaplants Ltd. where he worked for 16 years and enjoyed the camaraderie of his fellow workers, reluctantly retiring at the age of 75 due to health issues. Ken was deeply loved by his wife of almost 59 years, Patricia (Cook), and his four children: Darlene (John McKay) of Ottawa, ON; Kenneth of Toronto, ON; Jennifer (David Vittie) of Burlington, ON; James Delaney (Stephanie McCausland) of Ottawa, ON; and his five grandchildren: Liam McKay (Ottawa,ON); Sean and Katelyn Roache (Burlington, ON); and Grace and Juliet Delaney (Ottawa, ON). Ken touched many lives with his kindness, humour, and generosity of spirit. He will be missed by his brothers, Louis Delaney (Calgary, AB) and Eugene Delaney (Wellington, NS), as well as his brother-in-law James Cook (Wellington, NS) and sisters-in-laws Ann (Cook) Rozee (Moncton, NB); Jane MacLellan (Calgary, AB); and Doris (Thurston) Cook (Wellington, NS). Their friendship and mutual support over the years was important to Ken. The family offers its deepest thanks to the many doctors, nurses, home care workers, family and friends who visited and cared for Ken. Special thanks to Dr. Michelle Cain, and members of the VON and home support services, whose care and services allowed Ken to spend all but his last few days in the comfort of his home. Visitation with family was at Sweeny’s Funeral Home, located at 567 Main Street, Yarmouth, NS on Sunday, May 13th from 1:00 to 2:00 pm, followed immediately thereafter, by a celebration of Ken’s life, Reverend Joyce Trask officiated. Interment took place at the Port Maitland and Beaver River Cemetery located at 3181, Highway 1, Port Maitland. Family flowers only please. Donations may be made in Ken’s memory to the Bay View Baptist Church, the Yarmouth Hospital Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
