Goldie Patricia Bonnar

Goldie Patricia Bonnar
It is with broken hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of our loving mother, nanny, sister, aunt and dear friend, Goldie Patricia Bonnar, age 88, on Friday, February 16, 2018, at the Northside General Hospital, with her loving family by her side. Born in Alder Point on June 21, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Elias and Catherine (Devoe) LeBlanc. In her earlier years, Mom worked at the Alder Point Fish Plant, and later moved on to work on a community grant, which she so enjoyed, for she always loved the outdoors. Mom was a devoted and loving mother to her ten children, and was like a mother figure to any child who came through the door, especially her grandson, Mitchell, with whom she had a special bond. She leaves behind to mourn her children; Charles (Terry), Doreen, Florence (Elmer), Bonita (Dale), Christina (Maurice), Leonard, Catherine and Willard (Rose Mary). She also leaves behind her loving sister, Evelyn Thurbide; sisters-in-law, Doreen (Bonnar) Powers, and Annie LeBlanc, and brothers-in-law, Cyril Bonnar and Jim Landry. Nanny was blessed with 21 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She will be forever missed by her best friend Millie Erickson. Besides her parents, Goldie was predeceased by her loving husband of 64 years, Gerald, just 8 months ago, her sons, Eric and Gerald (Cat); grandson, Jacob; son-in-law, Joseph Smith, her sisters, Beatrice, Grace, Bertha, Violet, Shirley, Olive, and Ninette, and her brothers, Leslie, George, Elmer, Benny and Irvin. The family would like to send special thanks to special friends and caregivers over the years, especially Maureen, Debbie and Kim, who never left her side. Also, a special thank you to Dr. Andrew Wawer and his staff, Palliative Care, the VON, Cape Breton County Homemakers, and the nurses and staff at the Northside General Hospital for the kindness and compassion given to our Mom and our family in our time of need. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, February 19, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Anne Church, Alder Point, with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. The burial will take place at a later date. Donations in Goldie’s memory may be made to St. Anne Parish, Alder Point at [email protected], the Alzheimer’s Society, or a charity of one’s choice. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to her family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
